Good morning
We are so excited to begin day 49 of our school year. Today is Monday October 30th.
We all at BHES are so happy to see everyone come to school each day. Myself and all the teachers care about you all and want to make every day as awesome as we can. We're here to help you have fun, to learn, and to grow. We're here to help you be safe, be healthy, and be happy.
No that we are in the 2nd Quarter, students should not be wearing shorts to school. This rule stays in effect through all of 2nd and 3rd quarter. Students can wear again starting in 4th quarter.

Students are welcome to dress up in their costumes for the day as long as it is school appropriate and they can independently get in and out of it for things such as the bathroom and participating in PE. We are welcoming all families to join in the festivities and classrooms. We are asking adults who join us to NOT come in costume to help us better recognize who you are.
On November 10th at 1:30, BHES will be holding a Veterans Day program to recognize and honor local individuals who have served in the military. We want to invite any local veterans to join us and be celebrated in our gymnasium that day. If you are a veteran who plans to join us on on the 10th, please contact our office at (217)759-7251 or email Mr. Click at sclick@bismarck.k12.il.us to tell us who you are, what branch you served in, and number of years of service in order to help us prepare for the event.

Thank you everyone for attending our 2nd Annual Trunk-or-Treat last night. We had a great turn out even with the rainy conditions. Thank yous also go out to Ridgeview Baptist Church, the Bismarck Fire Department, the Bismarck Women's Club, the Bismarck Men's Club, our local Cub Scouts troop, our local Girl Scouts troop, our BHES Parent's Club, the Bismarck Lions Club, and the BHES Staff for their involvement through either decorating a trunk or making a donation. We are so glad we get to hold an event such as this for our incredible community.
We are still planning to hold our Trunk-or-Treat this evening at 5:30. The radar indicates that the rain should clear up by the time we begin handing out candy. If the rain continues, we will be bringing the festivities into our gymnasium. If we are indoors, we will use the east doors by our cafeteria to enter the Trunk-or-Treat.

Did you know that Venus is the only planet that spins clockwise? Every 225 Earth days, Venus travels around the sun, but Venus rotates clockwise once every 243 days. All the other plantes spin counterclockwise because that is the direction the sun spins at the center of the solar system. Scientists hypothesize that a young Venus was hit by another small planet which caused it to spin the opposite direction very slowly.

If your student will having any changes in their normal routine (leaving early, dismissal changes, etc.) please send a note to give to the teacher. This is an extremely important step to ensure we get out students where they need to be and to keep them safe.
Meet Sarah Johnson
Hometown: Danville, IL
Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why?
Mrs. Hughes at Edison Elementary School. She always made me feel special and important, but also made sure I was learning to the best of my ability. The best was that after I had her for third grade she moved to fourth grade so I had her for two years!
What is your favorite activity to do outside of school?
I love to spend time with my kids and my family and friends. We love to go boating on my pontoon boat and golfing together. ⛵⛳
If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do?
If I ever were to have to choose a different job, I would want to go back into the legal system. I was a legal secretary for many years and loved it. 💼🗃
What is a fun fact about you?
One of my pets is a bearded dragon named Mango! 🦎
Thanks for sharing more about you, Ms. Johnson! BHES is lucky to have your smiling face teaching our 2nd graders!
Check out pictures from our Fuzzy Friday event we held yesterday for the Preschoolers, Kindergartners, and First Graders. Teachers participated in a guest-the-hamburger game. We had several Warm Fuzzy recipients. Mrs. Olson's class won the Chow Hall Challenge and Miss Latta's class will be visited by Colby for their excellent behavior.
We have a huge pile of missing sweaters, jackets, and coats in the office. Take time to mention to your students that if they cannot find something they have lost to check our main office. After Parent-Teacher conferences are over, we will be donating items to a good cause that supports children in need. If you feel you may have a lost item at school, feel welcome to stop by our office and see if your item might be in our lost and found.

Fun Fact
Did you know that a shrimp’s heart is in its head? If that wasn’t interesting enough, due to the nature of their open circulatory system, shrimp have no arteries so their organs just float around in blood!
