One of our retired reading teachers used to say, "the more you read the better you get and the better you get the more you read!" These students did just that this summer! ☀️What a perfect day for a cold treat! A big thanks goes to Andi Mae's for allowing us to continue this reward each year! 🍦

Good morning We are so excited to begin day 6 of our school year. Today is Thursday August 24th Please make sure you give any notes or letters from home to your teacher so we can make sure you get what you need and get home safely at the end of the day. Also, make sure to notify the office if your child will be absent or tardy from school. The office needs this information to help us keep track of kids and to ensure their safety and education. Unfortunately, today we have are supposed to have really hot temperatures and will be unable to go outside. Everyone will be using Chromebooks at school and 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade get to take theirs home. Our older students need to remember to charge their computers at home and then bring them back each day. Every Chromebook has at least three tags on it. You need to keep all of those tags on your computer to help me keep track of whose it is and where it goes. Starting on Monday we are making a change to our Car Rider line for dismissal. We are working to avoid having too much cross traffic on the side streets which impacts the conditions of the roads and has caused issues in our neighbors' yards. Please refer to the included picture. The yellow lines refer to the path our buses will take and the red lines refer to the path we are asking cars to use. We need cars to pull north onto N Charlesworth Ave, turn east(right) onto North St, turn right(south) onto Market Place, and then right(west) to return to Holloway(2750) in order to line up in front of the school. It will be important to make space at the intersection of Holloway and Charlesworth to allow cars and buses to enter the street and go north. Once again, this new traffic pattern will begin on Monday August 21st. Thank you all for your cooperation in helping our neighbors and to improve the flow of traffic on our side-streets in Bismarck.

Please submit your Reading Challenge pictures no later than Monday, August 21st. You can email those to acarpenter@bismarck.k12.il.us. Completed Reading Challenge forms also need to be turned into homeroom teachers by Monday, August 21st as well. We will celebrate on Friday, August 25th with a special treat!

Tomorrow we officially begin the 2023-2024 school year and we are excited to see our BHES students! We have a normal dismissal schedule tomorrow. Doors for students will open at 7:50 and our day of learning kicks off at 8:05. Any students arriving after 8:10 will need to be signed in at the office and will be considered tardy. We will dismiss any car rider and walking students at 2:40 and then all bus students will be dismissed at 2:45. Please remember to always call the office about any absences or tardies before school starts to help us be aware of where our students are. Also, we serve breakfast at arrival so help you student remember if you plan on them eating here at school to stop by the cafeteria for food. We are looking forward to another exciting and fun filled year at the elementary school!

Tomorrow night is our annual BHES Kindergarten Orientation and All-school Open House. Kindergarten Orientation will start at 5:00 in each teacher's classroom. Students will practice riding a bus and teachers will provide families with an overview of what the school year will be like. The Open House for Preschool, First, Second, Third, and Fourth grade students will begin at 6:00 and end around 7:00. You are welcome to come and go as you please and are highly encouraged to drop off you school supplies in your classroom, so you won't need to worry about them on the first day of school. We're excited to see you all tomorrow and to get the new school year started!

Good afternoon, I wanted to send a reminder that Bismarck-Henning Elementary School will be holding our Open House on Wednesday August 16th. Kindergarten Orientation will start at 5:00 in each teacher's classroom. The district dates to remember list states it starts at 5:30, but we have decided to move it up half an hour to give teachers and families more time to get to know each other. Students will practice riding a bus and teachers will provide families with an overview of what the school year will be like. The Open House for Preschool, First, Second, Third, and Fourth grade students will begin at 6:00 and end around 7:00. Feel free to come as you please to meet your teachers for the year, see your classroom, drop off you school supplies, and tour around the building. Can't wait to see everyone and get the new school year started!
