This month for Character Counts we will be talking about and going over tips over Citizenship. A person who is working to be a good citizen works to do their part to make their school and community a better place.
We are continuing to celebrate Read Across America Day with our dress up days all week. Today we are wearing Green for Green Eggs and Ham. Tomorrow is Fox in Sox day, so wear crazy socks.
This year’s American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge end on February 23rd. We had a few more donations get added to our total yesterday and it ended up pushing us over last years total raised. This year we raised over $11,000. There is a list of 56 students who will get to Pie Mr. Click in the face. We will hold out Pie the Principal Event for the Kids Heart Challenge earners that raised over $100 or more in donations on March 15th.

Did you know that that if you read for 20 minutes everyday you will read about 1,800,000 words in a year? Reading is also beneficial because simply having your own library at home of at least 20 books will help you achieve three more years worth of school than those who have no books. On Wednesday, Judge Mockbee visited with our 4th graders to read a story about Abraham Lincoln and to learn a bit about what it is like to be a judge. Kids had an excellent time meeting a local judge and learning more about how our legal system works. Thanks Judge Mockbee for taking time to visit with our students!
On Tuesday, the Traveling Naturalists visited Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms and shared some cool information about local plants and animals from our area. Kids had a great time and got to check out some furs and other preserved animals.
BHES is planning on holding our Pie the Principal event to go along with our Kids Heart Challenge drive on March 15th at 1:15. With help from our students, families, and community we raised over $11,000 in donations for the American Heart Association. A total of 56 students raised $100 or more in donations and get the opportunity to Pie Mr. Click in the face. We will be holding the pie throwing on the blacktop by our playground(if weather cooperates) and since this could not have happened without our community's support, we want to invite all of our friends and families to watch. Parking will be along Chicago heading north of the school. Please feel welcome to come and enjoy seeing Mr. Click get covered in pie. We appreciate all of your support and getting the opportunity to work with your amazing students every day.

This year’s American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge end on February 23rd. We got to enjoy seeing students silly string Mrs. Foster. I will continue to work on the list of people who get to Pie Mr. Click on the Face. Students names were drawn today for extra rewards. Three students earned a Buster Figure Keychain-one randomly out of the top ten donations earners, one randomly for students who completed Finn’s mission, and one randomly from all the students in Mrs. Olson’s class for being our toop earning class overall. Our 3 Buster recipients were Leighton Drake, Carter Knoles, and Winnie Shelato. Two students had their name randomly drawn from all the students who earned $25 or more in donations to receive a stuffed Avocado. Those two recipients were Ethan Nxon and Weston Martin.

Did you know that Orcas, or Killer Whales, are the largest member of the dolphin family. The are also known as the ‘Wolves of the Sea’ because they are a top predator who hunt in packs. We already have our list of students who will be silly stinging Mrs. Foster. Remember that anyone who earns over $100 in donations will get to pie Mr. Click after our event is all wrapped up. As of this morning our school has already earned $10,322 in donations which is past of our $7,500 overall school goal. Our top earning is class is Mrs. Olson’s with $1,059. Mrs. Warren has the most student registered with 12. First grade has the most overall donations at $2,481 and second grade is in second place with $2,299.

It’s our final week of Kids Heart Challenge! We are having a blast learning about our hearts, and I’m so proud of our students and families for creating a community of live savers!
We past our $7,500 goal over the weekend. Now we want to aim to pass last years donation total of $10,600. There is still time to register and help us bring in donations for this great cause.

As of this morning our school has already earned $7,018 in donations which is 94% of our $7,500 overall school goal. Our top earning is class is Mrs. Warren’s with $867. Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Warren’s classes have the most student registered with 10 each. Second grade has the most overall donations at $1,712 and fourth grade is in second place with $1518. We have three students over $300 in donations so far, those students are Aria Heden, Abry Olson, and Leighton Drake

This month for Character Counts we will be talking about and going over tips over Responsibility. A responsible person make sure to keep their space organized and their area clean. After finishing work, a project, or playing, responsible people make sure they keep things in good shape and put things where they belong.
The Eastern IL Foodbank will be in town on Monday, February 26th. If you plan to attend and have never attended an EIF distribution, we encourage you to visit www.eifclient.com to pre-register. Please note, pre-registering is not required and does not reserve a spot in line. Those attending should bring boxes, bags, or carts to transport food.

This year’s American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge will continue today and run through February 23. Students will bring home more specific information today about how to register and begin supporting the work of the American Heart Association. We already have our list of students who will be silly stinging Mrs. Foster. Remember that anyone who earns over $100 in donations will get to pie Mr. Click after our event is all wrapped up.
