When we throw away food that we don’t eat it ends up wasting a lot of resources. We have to use water to grow plants and food for animals. We need to use gasoline to transport food from farms and factories to store shelves. We need to use electricity to store and display food in stores. Once wasted food gets to the landfill, it rots and creates harmful chemicals and gasses that can damage our water and air. Reminder! Last Friday, the Bismarck Women's Club decorated the front of the elementary school to help spread awareness of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. They put out signage and pinwheels to mark April as the month to recognize this issue.

Last week on April 14th we had the privilege and honor of hosting our grandparents for Grandparents' Day at the elementary school. It was great to see so many children and adults get excited about spending time together and sharing their memories. Mrs. Foster did an amazing job organizing and running this event in the gym. Mr. Hibbets worked on students learning song to sing to their families. Mrs. Ross help prepare and distribute materials for students and their grandparents. Thank you everyone who was able to attend and make Grandparents' Day an special event.

A responsible student has self-discipline. This means we control our own actions and think about our actions before doing something so we do not have a negative impact on another person. The Village of Bismarck had an issue with our water yesterday and our schools have been affected. We are currently under a boil order, so students will not be able to use our water fountains. The school district will be providing bottled water to students but they are also being encouraged to bring their own water bottles if possible. Elementary lunches will not be impacted at this time. The male Cardinal is easy to recognize because he is bright red while the female does a better job of camouflage since she is shaded in brown. Cardinals do not migrate when the weather starts getting colder, so you can see them all year round. Cardinals only live in the eastern part of the United States which means that most people who live west of the Rocky Mountains have not seen one. Both males and female Cardinals sing and can learn up to 24 different songs to communicate with each other. Reminder! We often hear that people need a good 8 hours of sleep, but that’s really only for adults who are all done growing and developing. Not getting enough sleep obviously makes you more tired but can also make people cranky and clumsy. If you keep missing sleep, you will start having more trouble doing normal things throughout your day because your brain cannot concentrate on all the things your body needs. They are mainly separated into finned, deepsea type that live on the ocean floor and finless, shallow type that live around coral reefs. All octopus have two eyes, eight legs with two rows of suckers on each, a beak like a parrot, and three hearts. The largest octopus is the giant Pacific octopus which can weigh up to 33 pounds and grow to 14 feet across. When octopus are in danger they can change their color, shoot ink, or even sacrifice one of their arms to make sure they get away. Reminder! Good morning We are so excited to start day 141 Today is Wednesday April 10th- Today is National National Encourage a Writer Day, National Cinnamon Crescent Day, National Farm Animals Day, and National Sibling Day Grandparents’ Day is on April 14th We will also be starting Mileage Club on April 14th during afternoon recesses. Our Character Counts pillar for April is Responsibility. A responsible person makes sure they get things done when they are supposed to. Kindergarten Pre-Registration will be April 17th through April 21st The winning class for our Spirit Stick and for meeting expectations for arrival in the gym during the morning was Miss. Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that there are around 300 species of octopus? They are mainly separated into finned, deepsea type that live on the ocean floor and finless, shallow type that live around coral reefs. All octopus have two eyes, eight legs with two rows of suckers on each, a beak like a parrot, and three hearts. The largest octopus is the giant Pacific octopus which can weigh up to 33 pounds and grow to 14 feet across. When octopus are in danger they can change their color, shoot ink, or even sacrifice one of their arms to make sure they get away. Reminder! If your student will not be attending school for the day, please make sure you call the office and let us know. Please call us by 9am each day your student is absent. (A ClassDojo message is not enough since those sometimes go unread until later in the day). We all at BHES are so happy to see everyone come to school each day.
