Meet Kristi Powell
Hometown: I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but Bismarck is my home now!
Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why?
Miss Arnt. She was so patient and kind. She let me stay after school to help her. She was great at building relationships!
What is your favorite activity to do outside of school?
I love spending time with my family! I enjoy watching my kids play sports, being outdoors and reading. 🏈🌻📖
If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do?
I can’t imagine not teaching now, but I almost went to college for physical therapy. I also find art very soothing, so if I was good enough, I’d enjoy creating art of some kind professionally. 👩🎨
What is a fun fact about you?
I love the ocean. I could spend hours walking the beach. In fact, once my family thought I was lost or abducted because I wandered so far down the beach. I also love water related activities - hiking to waterfalls, white water rafting, and even cliff jumping! 🏖
Mrs. Powell, BHES is so lucky to have you! Thank you for all of wonderful ways you make 3rd grade fun!

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that he average person makes 5 pounds of trash a day? We can cut down on this by recycling. Cardboard boxes can be recycled up to 7 times to keep making brand new boxes. Glass is great to recycle because it can be endlessly broken down and recycled to make new objects. Recycling one soda can saves enough energy to power a TV long enough to watch a movie, and recycling one class bottle can save enough energy to power a lightbulb for 4 hours.

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that some animals freeze in the winter and thaw out when spring comes? Some of these animals include some frogs, some spiders, wooly bear caterpillars some alligators, and painted turtle hatchlings. Some frogs’ bodies give off a special chemical when it gets really cold that rids its body of water and keeps the ice from damaging it so they can survive until it gets warmer.

Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why?
Mrs. Rademacher was one of my favorite teachers growing up. She had a smile on her face each day, encouraged us to always try our personal best, provided engaging activities in the classroom, and most importantly, made us feel loved and seen. She always encouraged us to go out into the world and be kind and amazing, which is a trait students can take with them each day for the rest of their lives. She is thoughtful and selfless. She even gave me a poster for my classroom that was hung in the fourth-grade classroom we shared. This is so special to me! Thank you for being a rockstar and making such a significant impact on my life, Mrs. Rademacher!
What is your favorite activity to do outside of school?
I enjoy going to baseball and football games with my husband. I enjoy attending all games from my nephews’ youth league games to professional sporting events. ⚾🏈

Strawberries actually come in more colors than red such as pink and white. Strawberries are another healthy snack like peaches and blueberries because they contain protein, calcium, and Vitamin C.

Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why?

What is your favorite activity to do outside of school?
I enjoy spending time with my family. I like to go to the movie theater and enjoy movies at home. 🎞
If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do?
I always wanted to be a teacher, so this was a difficult question. Someday, I would like to volunteer at a hospital to rock babies. 👶
What is a fun fact about you?
