They have 5 full fingers on their paws and then their sixth is actually an extra pad on their wrist that they use to help hold onto bamboo while they eat. Meet Heather Douglass Hometown: Bismarck, IL Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why? Mr. Hudson. He saw the potential in every student. What is your favorite activity to do outside of school? Traveling with my family. ✈ If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do? I’ve always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I can’t think of anything else that I would enjoy more. 👩‍🏫 What is a fun fact about you? There are 7 teachers in my family! 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫🍎 Thank you, Mrs. Douglass, for all you do to help your students achieve their goals! 💙

Meet Jeff Hickman Hometown: Milford, IL Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why? Terry Johnson. I learned how to pay attention to the details. Even the smallest ones can be highlighted to make the final product stand out! What is your favorite activity to do outside of school? I love being with my kids.👨‍👧‍👦 If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do? I would host a podcast or something else computer based. 🎙 What is a fun fact about you? I am grounded until the age of 35. When I was 12 my dad, little brother, and I took a trip to the Vermilion County airport. My 10 year old brother and the pilot were in the front and my dad and I were in the back. Before take off, I was already wanting out. 5 minutes into the ride I grabbed a barf bag, but hadn’t used it…until they let Danny, my brother, fly! Oh no, there goes lunch! When we landed and all feet were on the ground, my dad looked over at me with a smile on his face and grounded me until I’m 35. Needless to say, I didn’t argue that one. 3 more years!!! 3 more years!!! ✈🤢 Thank you so much for all you do to keep BHES looking great, Jeff! And thank you for sharing that hilarious story! All of your small details made your fun fact stand out! 😉

Hello BHES! We are so excited to be gearing up to have the most magical homecoming week, October 3rd-6th! In the flyer you will find BHES dress up days for the week. As a reminder, there is no school on the Friday of homecoming week, October 7th, due to Fall Institute. Bismarck Blessings will be hosting a Food Drive this week as a part of the fun, and you can find the daily food items will be collecting on the flyer as well. We can't wait for a week full of fun! Meet Karley Douglass Hometown: Rossville, IL Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why? Miss Wheeler, my 2nd grade teacher. She made learning so much fun and always made me feel special! What is your favorite activity to do outside of school? I enjoy running, cooking, spending time with my family, and playing pickleball. 🏃‍♀️👩‍🍳🎾 If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do? I would love to be a guidance counselor! I think it would be so rewarding to help students chase their dreams. Or I would be a dog walker! 🐶 What is a fun fact about you? The majority of my family are or were teachers. Their amazing influence on students’ lives encouraged me to become a teacher myself. 👩‍🏫

Meet Allie Dawson Hometown: Bismarck, IL Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why? My favorite teacher growing up was Tony Foster. Tony not only cared about students inside the classroom, but also their well-being outside of school. I had a few life changes happen at the beginning of my 5th grade year, this made it hard academically for me to keep up in school. Tony provided such a positive learning environment for students like me to grow in. I will never forget the impact him and his “go to” substitute (Chelsea Foster) left on me. What is your favorite activity to do outside of school? Cookouts with my family! 🍔 If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do? Students at BHES have been working on throwing skills during PE. They worked on their form by practicing with felt balls and throwing scarves. (Ask your student what 4 cues are when throwing!) Then they practiced their accuracy by trying to knock dodgeballs off of cones while throwing with tennis balls. We will continue to use these skills all year in PE!

In 1828, a french mathematician created the first sharpener that was a block of wood with a sharp blade in it. This was not very useful, so several people after him worked to improve the idea. Not until 1904 did someone create the style of pencil sharpener we have today that has two round spinning pieces inside. SInce then pencil sharpeners have not really changed much. Meet Anita Nixon Hometown: Lytle, Texas Who was one of your favorite teachers growing up and why? Mrs. Beard, she was so sweet and made everyday a great day for learning. Mrs. Beard made me see how one person can truly make a difference in a child’s life. What is your favorite activity to do outside of school? Road trips with my family. 🚗 If you weren’t doing your current job, what other job would you want to do? Never thought about doing anything else, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. It’s the best job and I’m truly blessed that I GET to do what I love. ❤ What is a fun fact about you? I am a direct descendant of King Ferdinand II of Aragon. 👑 We are happy to have you at BHES, Mrs. Nixon!
